It’s on the Shelf!

Nov 5, 2026

It is hard to explain the excitement an author feels when they finally see a book they’ve written on the shelf of a bookstore. Thinking back to the very first thought , the very first word put to the page and the hours, days and months dedicated to bringing the story into being is quite overwhelming. The revising, editing and proof reading evolution takes place. The cover design and approval happens. A blurb is sought and received and the design takes shape. One waits in anticipation to hear that it has gone to the printer, and then that it has arrived in the warehouse and sent to bookstores. One waits for the author copies and the boxes to arrive so that you can put a copy into anxious and loyal reader’s hands. Then you step into a local bookstore and seek it out. Finding it displayed on the Fiction shelves is a thrill . You stand quietly not giving voice to the excitement you feel. Observers would not know it is the author standing in awe and gratitude to see their creation on the shelf. Maybe one should let out a gleeful holler and bring others to the aisle to celebrate with them. But instead I took a picture , I kept my emotions under warp and quietly left the store. We write in quiet solitude and we rejoice internally. We have put ourselves out into the world and hope that we have created something others will receive and take to heart. This progression has happened for me fifteen times and it still feels so amazing.
