When a new book is released the author often chooses to celebrate with a launch. I remember when I launched The Year Mrs. Montague Cried in 2011. I chose the Kingston Farmer’s Market as the venue and went about planning it. I invited former students personally and asked Mary Ann Gallagher of Benjamin Books to have the book table. I don’t remember a whole lot more about the planning but I certainly remember how well it was attended. My friend Ruth Shannon introduced me and my friend Kathy closed. The market dining room was bursting with people possibly breaking some fire code regulations. I welcomed supporters and signed many books. In the next few years I launched a book every year at the market again, the Kingston Parish hall or the Legion. Each time I felt a lot of nervousness and a lot of joy. Each launch is memorable in it’s own way. Then Covid came and in person launches stopped. I had a couple of Zoom launches and they were great in their own way. For the Wright Retreat we ate cake and celebrated in person again. Jasper’s Road and The Way I Feel were launched online. So here I am at book number fourteen and I have decided to do both. The Zoom launch is on November 28th and the in person launch is on December 5th and the Moss Glen Legion I will feel the same excitement and nervousness I felt before the first launch. I will worry no one will come. I will question my decision to put myself though standing in front of people and sharing the work that is so personal and close to my heart. Burton will support me ,stand at the table and sell books. My family and friends will come out and I will get through the night. The launch for Such a Winter’s Day will become a memory to add to the others and all my second guessing will be worth it. And today I get to work on another book and hope for another launch.
